Hansel and Gretel

Bethany loves to play Hansel and Gretel. Guess who's the witch- Me (Liz)! My room is the witch's house, and Bethany knocks, comes in, and goes under the desk (the cage). She sticks out her finger, and I check to see if she's gotten fat enough to eat, yet. Then eventually, she gets out, says, "Well, I better go now, witch," and she leaves. Good thing this witch is nice enough to let her go:) And then she repeats it.

There are variations to this game- sometimes she drives to the witch's house in her car. Sometimes she walks her dog there. And quite often, she calls for me just during the day, "Hey, Witch." And I respond with a little cackle and a "Hello, little girl."

Might I add that when we originally read the book, Bethany was devastated that the children were not eaten in the end...

Bethany's Birthday!

Bethany had a pretty cool birthday this year! She's "fwee" (translation: three)! Since she'd been excited about her birthday for months, I thought I'd throw her a little birthday party with a few neighbor kids her age. We decorated bags, went fishing, played pin the tail on the pig, and had a candy hunt. And ate lots of cupcakes, of course!

And when it was all over, I realized that the kids would have been just as happy if we'd just played with our toys the whole time:)

Them a couple of days later, the Thorntons came over for a birthday dinner.

  Happy birthday Bethany!
